June 1st is the 24th World No-Tobacco Day, its theme being that “Tobacco kills like fire and flood; tobacco-control could save lives”. Jointly hosted by the Civilization Office of the Tianjin Communist Party Committee, Communist Youth League Committee of Tianjin, Tianjin Women’s Federation, Jinwanbao Newspaper, Jinwan Website and Tianjin TLY Cultural Foundation, “We-Are-Taking-Action-on-Tobacco-Control” Activity started this morning. This activity suggested citizens do not smoke on the No-tobacco Day, and proposed a serious of various activities to help citizens stay away from tobacco and treasure their lives.
According to the latest survey, smoking rate of adults (aged 18 and over) in Tianjin is 27.2%, which is 1.1% higher than the national average. Of all the smokers in Tianjin, 48.3% are male and ?% are female, its rate of female smokers being 2.6% higher than national average. Of all the patients killed by lung cancer 56% are smokers; meanwhile, among those who suffer from lung cancer 62.85% are smokers.
Besides, there will be a competition on tobacco control advertisement designing,, a survey about adolescent smoking, the building of tobacco-control societies in colleges and secondary schools and No smoking family signature campaign and other actions to be taken after this activity.

Tianjin TLY Cultural Foundation and Education Bureau of Hexi District Signed Cigarette-Free Cooperation Agreement
Through friendly consultations, Tianjin TLY Cultural Foundation signed an agreement with Education Bureau of Hexi District to build cigarette-free offices and schools in Hexi District on July 20th, 2011. Two parties hope to decrease the negative impact of tobacco on teenagers and children. The agreement covers more than 90 schools, 70,000 students, and 13,000 staff altogether.
